getting on the train this morning to go to Aquas Caliente, the town at the foot of Machu Picchu.

Out of the train window. The Urubamba River is raging this time of year. These are death rapids. It's pretty dramatic - the valley is very steep and narrow, so everything is built right to the edge of the river.
After getting to Aquas Caliente by train, now on the bus, switchbacking up to Machu Picchu.
Insanely pretty, and lucky with the good weather for this time of year. Machu Picchu is a cload city, so when the weather is bad up there, which it often is this time of year, you can't see 10 feet.
Entering Machu Picchu. My first Disneyland vibe of the trip. It was teaming.
Looking out an Inca window.

much of the structure looks more like organic sculpture than architecture. The Inca made love to rock.

These round pools were used as mirrors to reflect stars at night for some astrological purpose.

My room down in Aguas Caliente. The hotel is built over the river. Beautiful. I wish I could show how loud that river was under my room.
