this almost 5 inch spider is not a tarantula, it's an amazonian wolf spider - much more menacing because they have bigger fangs and tend to jump on you as you walk past them at night.

OK. Now I'm in Cusco, great view from my room of the central plaza. Strange to be at 10,000 feet after being in the Amazon. I had a bit of elevation sickness and didn't sleep too well this night.

Cicada mud tubes were all over the forest floor. The cicadas in the Amazon are so loud at times that it's hard to hear the person next to you talking.
